AI music: separate code and model licenses first

Learn MusicGen conditioning and listening review in a noncommercial exercise; use separately cleared music for commercial projects.

A quick glossary

Models generate and reason. Agents use tools to work on tasks. A harness manages an agent’s environment. MCP connects tools and data. Skills are reusable task guidance.

Current task

Submit three noncommercial short samples, a model/license sheet, three listening comparisons and a commercial alternative. Label each file’s purpose and exclude uncleared assets from commercial release folders.

Prerequisites

Prepare an original musical description and a noncommercial practice folder. AudioCraft currently documents Python 3.9 / PyTorch 2.1.0: use an isolated environment and check dependencies without overwriting an existing environment; check the exact model’s hardware and license separately.

Estimated time

Plan 3–5 sessions of 30–60 minutes; downloads and rendering are additional, not measured.

Limits & boundaries

Applying the code license to weights, dependency conflicts, VRAM exhaustion, sample-rate mismatch and loop seams; playable output is not commercial permission.

Validation

Submit three noncommercial short samples, a model/license sheet, three listening comparisons and a commercial alternative. Label each file’s purpose and exclude uncleared assets from commercial release folders.

Next steps

Pass the route’s acceptance checks before adding one variable; retain failed samples, versions, costs and rights records.

Cost

Not verified

Amounts unverified; local inference still uses hardware, power and storage. MusicGen’s documented noncommercial weights license restricts use and does not mean free commercial use. Commercial music, APIs and hosting require separate price/terms checks.
